The Reefs of Howe Sound

Howe Sound is a high run off body of ocean water located along the edge of Vancouver, B.C.

The Sound is home to an abundance of marine life and was formed by a two kilometer thick glacier, which started to retreat approximately 10,000 years ago, leaving behind a glacial till rich in silica.

This created a perfect environment for glass sponge.

The reefs in the Howe Sound ARE THE ONLY KNOWN LIVING glass sponge reefs in the world that are reachable by divers.

Our team has been conducting exploratory dives on the reefs in Howe Sound since 2013
